So this phrase is on my mind today for two reasons....One because today is the first day of spirit week, which Owen couldn't be more excited about!!! And since it marks the end of the reading contest that was western themed today is COWBOY DAY (no guns!!) and for him no cowboy boots, since I forgot about calling to borrow a pair until last night!! But he is excited none the less. He's a cute cowboy!!! I'll have to take a picture when he gets home! We got off to a slow start with the reading contest because he was insisting on reading chapter books that were slow readers for him (Magic Treehouse books) and he's just not to the level where he can buzz through those books. I tried to convince him to read some more appropriate level books, but he would hear none of it! That is until Mr. Richard called me the day they had their first check point to let me know that while he had successfully reached the first mark (which I think was like 200 pages) he was well behind the other kids. He told me that while he was putting in the same amount, if not more effort, than some that he was significantly behind most of the other kids who had already reached their 700 page quota. I told his teacher that I had tried to explain this to Owen but that he didn't want to hear it from me. So Mr. Richard said he would encourage him to read other books. That worked perfectly because Mr. Richard's word means so much more than mine! So that afternoon he came home we went to the library, picked books that would work better for this contest and off we were. So even though he is probably still behind a lot of the other kids because of our slow start he ended up with almost 1600 pages!!! Yee Haw....isn't that what cowboys say??? I'm such a goof!
The other reason why Giddy Up is my "phrase of the day" is because I meant to share this funny little story last week but forgot, now I'm glad I did because it works so well for today's post. Last week Emma was crawling around the kitchen while I was getting lunch ready. She started to wonder into the dining room, and I guess Grady decided to go rustle her up. I was really oblivious to the goings on that is right up until I heard him say "GIDDY UP"...I thought to myself, I wonder what he's doing, since he only says this when David or I are giving him horsey rides. I peek into the dining room where I find Emma (who was crawling on all fours) flattened and starting not to like the fact that Grady was sitting on top of her. I guess Grady decided to try to take a ride on the Emma express!!! I got a giggle out of it and then explained to Grady that he's too big to try to ride on Emmi's (that's what Grady calls her) back!!
Time to git along little doggies, got me some grub to make for my cowpokes!! (Ok so now I have completely lost it!!!)
